Overview

We’re seeking a Junior Quantity Surveyor for a leading restaurant chain in South Africa, for a 6-month fixed-term contract to start immediately. You will be responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of construction and refurbishment projects within the franchise. The role involves preparing budgets, overseeing procurement, certifying contractor payments, and ensuring projects are delivered within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with company standards.

Responsibilities
  • Cost Planning & Budget Control: Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets from inception to completion. Provide accurate cost estimates, feasibility studies, and value engineering options. Track actual costs against budgets, report variances, and recommend corrective actions. Support management with cost forecasts and financial planning for current and future projects.
  • Procurement & Tendering: Prepare and issue tender documents, bills of quantities (BOQs), and scope of works. Evaluate supplier and contractor quotations, ensuring value for money and compliance with specifications. Negotiate and finalise contracts in line with company policies. Maintain an approved database of suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Contract Administration & Payments: Certify progress claims, interim payments, and final accounts. Review variations, change orders, and assess cost implications. Ensure timely processing of contractor and supplier payments. Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.
  • Project Reporting & Coordination: Work closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, and the Finance Department to ensure alignment on cost and cash flow. Prepare monthly cost reports and financial summaries for management review. Support the rollout of new stores, refurbishments, and maintenance projects by providing financial and procurement input.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all procurement and payment processes comply with company policies and statutory requirements. Identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies. Promote sustainability and cost efficiency in sourcing materials and services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably in the retail, hospitality, or food and beverage sector.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contract administration, and cost control.
