Job summary

BVPD, a well-established farming operation near Bonnievale in the Western Cape, seeks a Junior Farm Manager to support daily farming across grape and fruit production and to coordinate teams and contractors.

Responsibilities include monitoring quality, safety and hygiene, solving issues, maintaining records and helping with planning and administration; there is an on-call roster, roughly two weekends per month.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years relevant experience in fruit production or farm management.
• Practical knowledge of vineyards, fruit, plums and/or pomegranates is advantageous.
• Good leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively manage personnel and contractors.

A well-established farming operation that farms with wine grapes, table grapes, plums and pomegranates, approximately 4 km outside Bonnievale, is looking for an energetic and responsible Junior Farm Manager to join their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the Production Manager with the daily management of farming activities.
• Plan, coordinate and supervise work teams and contractors.
• Assist with all fruit production practices, including pruning, thinning, flowering and fruit development.
• Monitor work standards, productivity and fruit quality.
• Ensure that quality, safety and hygiene standards are maintained.
• Identify problems and take proactive action when work does not proceed according to standard.
• Assist with relevant administration and record-keeping.
• Participate in an on-call roster, approximately two weekends per month.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• A relevant tertiary agricultural qualification will be advantageous.
• Approximately 3–5 years’ relevant experience in fruit production or farm management.
• Practical knowledge of vineyards, fruit, plums and/or pomegranates will be advantageous.
• Mechanical knowledge or experience will be an advantage.
• Good leadership, communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to effectively manage personnel and contractors.
• Must have good attention to detail.
• A valid driver’s licence with PDP will be advantageous.
