Job summary

Momentum is seeking a Senior Java Architect to lead the technical design and delivery of Java-based services within the Multiply ecosystem in South Africa. You will translate business requirements into scalable, secure architectures across mobile-facing APIs, gateways, core services, and in-country integrations.

You will mentor engineers, ensure production readiness, and drive architecture conformance and cross-team collaboration while supporting SDLC activities from design to deployment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software development focusing on Java.
• Experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-scale applications.
• Experience across the full SDLC and technical leadership without direct people management.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Experience in Multiply backend services (advantage).

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and development of Java-based applications and services.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and system designs.
• Collaborate with Scrum Master/PM to deliver quality software per process and business needs.
• Gather requirements, conduct analysis and prioritise requests.
• Conduct research and evaluate potential technical solutions to business problems.
• Document solutions into technical specifications and mentor engineers without line management responsibilities.
• Ensure production readiness, observability, and smooth handover.
• Maintain and optimise existing programmes per change requests.
