Job summary

South Cape Recruitment in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Internal Sales and Customer Service professional in the steel and tube industry to manage enquiries, quotations, orders and follow-ups in a fast-paced environment.

You will coordinate with external sales reps, oversee stock and credit control processes, use Syspro, and ensure timely order fulfilment while maintaining high standards of customer service.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience in the steel and tube industry, preferably in a sales-related role.
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and following up on outstanding quotations and orders.
• Ability to manage multiple enquiries and orders in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and convert customer enquiries into sales opportunities.
• Handle customer queries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
• Prepare and issue quotations via telephone and email.
• Follow up on all quotations to maximise sales conversions.
• Receive, process and monitor sales orders using the relevant systems.
• Maintain accurate records of customer enquiries, quotations and orders.
• Provide product information and assist customers with their requirements.
• Process sales orders and maintain accurate records on Syspro.
• Source standard and non-standard stock from approved suppliers.
• Monitor back orders daily and release invoices for delivery when appropriate.
• Expedite orders and follow up on deliveries to ensure timely fulfilment.
• Update customer discount structures on Syspro.
• Liaise with the Warehouse Manager regarding stock availability and deliveries.
• Coordinate with the relevant external sales representative on customer orders.
• Work closely with external sales representatives to support sales activities.
• Provide qualified leads and identify opportunities for new business.
• Accompany external sales representatives on customer visits when required.
• Maintain regular communication with the external sales team to ensure excellent customer service and effective order coordination.
• Perform general office and sales administration duties.
• Ensure customer enquiries and orders are captured and monitored through an effective system.
• Follow established credit procedures and take appropriate steps to minimise customer credit exposure.
• Assist with resolving account-related queries and support efficient sales administration.

• Confident personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organizational and administrative abilities.
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple enquiries and orders in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and following up on outstanding quotations and orders.
• Must reside in Cape Town or the surrounding areas, as relocation is not being considered.
