Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a creative and meticulous Mechanical Engineer focused on product development to join their Kimberley team. You will design, prototype, test, and refine mechanical systems from concept through manufacturing, ensuring performance, quality, and cost targets are met.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform basic stress analyses, and utilize CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor to deliver robust designs for diverse product lines in the Northern Cape.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in CAD software and a good understanding of 3D modeling and 2D detailing.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining, sheet metal).
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to design challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for new products using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Create detailed drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Conduct prototype builds and perform functional testing, documenting results and identifying areas for improvement.
• Perform basic stress and thermal analysis to validate design concepts and ensure product robustness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing, throughout the product development process.
• Troubleshoot design issues and implement effective solutions to ensure product quality and manufacturability.
