Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Industrial Engineer in Randburg, Gauteng, focused on process automation and technology integration to boost manufacturing efficiency, quality and safety. You will identify opportunities, evaluate new technologies, and develop ROI analyses for automation projects across engineering, IT, and operations.

The role requires a strong background in PLCs, robotics, HMI, SCADA, IIoT and Industry 4.0, with 5+ years in automation-focused industrial engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial engineering with specialization in automation/robotics/advanced manufacturing.
• Proven experience implementing automation projects in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming, robotics, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
• Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts, IIoT, machine learning and data analytics in manufacturing.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical systems.
• Project management skills including planning, budgeting and execution.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse teams.
• Experience with simulation software for automation design is advantageous.
• Understanding cybersecurity principles in industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities for automation and implement robotic, PLC and other automated systems.
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies, including IoT devices and data analytics platforms.
• Develop business cases and ROI analyses for automation projects.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT and operations to design, implement and commission automated solutions.
• Develop process flow diagrams and system architecture for automated workflows.
• Oversee testing, validation and troubleshooting of automated systems.
• Train maintenance and operations personnel on new automated equipment and systems.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends in industrial automation and digital manufacturing.
• Ensure automation projects comply with safety regulations and cybersecurity best practices.
• Analyze performance data to identify opportunities for optimization.
• Contribute to the digital transformation strategy of the company.
