Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated In-House Counsel to join their expanding legal team. This fully remote role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa and requires providing broad-ranging legal support across contracts, IP, and compliance.

You will draft and negotiate commercial agreements, advise on POPIA/data privacy and employment law, manage IP portfolios, and help implement compliance programs while coordinating with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Qualified legal professional with at least 3 years PQE.
• Experience in corporate law and contract negotiation.
• Familiarity with SA legislation including POPIA and commercial law.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts, including NDAs, service agreements, and licensing deals.
• Provide legal advice on employment law, data privacy (POPIA), and company policies.
• Manage intellectual property portfolios, including trademarks and copyrights.
• Assist in the development and implementation of compliance frameworks and training programs.
• Conduct legal research on evolving legislation and its impact on the business.
• Support dispute resolution and manage external legal counsel when required.

About the Role

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage deadlines effectively in a remote environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships virtually.
