Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Automotive Powertrain Engineer for a hybrid role in Mahikeng, North West. You will design, develop, test, and validate powertrain systems, including engines, transmissions, and EV/hybrid architectures, collaborating across R&D and manufacturing teams.

The role requires deep knowledge of powertrain engineering, CAD/CAE proficiency, and emissions compliance. Occasional travel to project sites is expected in a dynamic engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in automotive powertrain development.
• Experience with internal combustion engines, hybrids or EV powertrains.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAE tools (CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS, GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Understanding of emissions regulations and vehicle dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize powertrain components and systems (engines, transmissions, hybrid, EV).
• Conduct simulations to evaluate performance, durability, and emissions.
• Plan and execute experimental testing programs for powertrain components and systems.
• Analyze test data and implement design modifications to meet targets.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and quality.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for reviews and regulatory submissions.
• Stay updated on powertrain tech and regulatory requirements.
