Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Mortgage Underwriter for our Rustenburg, North West-based operations. This hybrid role combines office-based evaluation of loan applications with remote work flexibility to support timely home loans while managing lender risk.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in mortgage underwriting, deep knowledge of Conventional, FHA and VA products, and strong analytical skills to assess income, assets and liabilities in line with RESPA/TILA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in a related field.
• 3–5 years of proven mortgage underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Conventional, FHA and VA products.
• In-depth knowledge of underwriting guidelines and compliance (RESPA, TILA).
• Proficiency with LOS and underwriting platforms.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications including income, assets and liabilities.
• Determine applicant eligibility based on guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Assess property valuations and legal documentation for accuracy.
• Identify and mitigate risks in loan applications.
• Communicate decisions clearly to loan officers and brokers.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage laws and best practices.
• Ensure underwriting decisions are well-documented and compliant.
• Collaborate with processors, originators and team members to close loans.
• Manage a pipeline of loan applications efficiently.
• Participate in ongoing product and market training.
