Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join a fully remote team, supporting lending operations from Richards Bay. You will evaluate loan applications, analyze financial documents, and determine borrower eligibility for mortgage financing.

The role requires reviewing credit reports, appraisals, and tax returns, with a focus on risk assessment and regulatory compliance in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter with conventional and government loan programs.
• Experience analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and credit histories.
• Proficiency with mortgage underwriting software and systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Strong understanding of banking and mortgage lending regulations.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a loan pipeline.

Responsibilities

• Review loan applications, credit reports, income docs, and appraisals to assess risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Approve, deny, or counter-offer mortgage loan applications, clearly documenting the rationale behind decisions.
• Communicate effectively with loan originators, processors, and brokers to gather necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with all federal and state lending regulations, including TRID, RESPA, and HMDA.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage lending products, guidelines, and industry best practices.
