Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC design expertise to join a prominent engineering consultancy in Benoni, Gauteng. The role focuses on designing, specifying, and managing sophisticated HVAC systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and energy modeling, with proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related with HVAC specialization.
• Minimum of 5 years HVAC design experience for buildings.
• Proficiency in CAD software for MEP design (AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP).
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
• Experience with HVAC load calculation software (e.g., eQUEST, HAP) and energy modeling tools.
• Understanding of relevant building codes and HVAC standards.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems including air conditioning, ventilation and heating for various building types.
• Perform load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection (chillers, boilers, AHUs, VAV boxes).
• Create detailed HVAC design drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software (AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP).
• Ensure designs comply with building codes and standards (SANS) and environmental regulations.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system efficiency and sustainability.
• Collaborate with architects, structural and electrical engineers for integrated designs.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project documentation.
• Conduct site inspections during construction to ensure design adherence.
• Troubleshoot HVAC issues and provide solutions during execution and post-completion.
• Assist in tender preparation and client liaison.
