Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance and promote sustainable practices within mining operations near Benoni. The role involves conducting EIAs, monitoring air and water quality, and developing mitigation plans.

You will travel to site visits for assessments and perform office-based reporting and strategy development. A minimum of five years in environmental management in mining and knowledge of SA environmental legislation are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of environmental management experience, preferably in mining.
• Strong knowledge of SA environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA) and permitting processes.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct EIAs and develop management plans for mining projects.
• Monitor air quality, water quality, noise levels, and biodiversity at mine sites.
• Develop and implement programs for waste management, pollution control, and rehabilitation.
• Ensure compliance with national and provincial environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Prepare environmental reports, permit applications, and contribute to environmental audits.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and community groups on environmental matters.
