Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to lead environmental compliance and management for mining operations near Stellenbosch. You will ensure adherence to environmental regulations and develop management plans to mitigate impacts while liaising with regulators and stakeholders.

This role requires a strong background in EIAs/EMPs, site audits, and environmental monitoring programs, plus excellent report writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science or related field.
• Minimum 7 years in environmental management, with mining sector emphasis.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience developing and managing EIAs and EMPs.
• Strong report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance with environmental laws, regulations and mining permits.
• Develop, implement, and manage EIAs and EMPs.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections to monitor compliance and risks.
• Manage monitoring programs for water quality, emissions, biodiversity and analyze results.
• Engage with government, consultants, and communities on environmental matters.
