Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to support mining operations near Benoni, Gauteng. The role blends office strategy with field assessments, driving EIA/EMP work and ensuring regulatory adherence for sustainable mining practices.

You will lead environmental programs, conduct site-based monitoring, and contribute to remediation and closure planning, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet compliance and performance targets.

Qualifications

• MSc or MEng in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, with mining exposure.

Responsibilities

• Lead EIAs and EMPs for mining projects.
• Conduct site investigations, baseline studies, and monitoring (air, water, soil).
• Develop strategies for pollution control, waste management, and biodiversity.
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Provide expert environmental advice to project teams and management.
• Oversee rehabilitation and closure planning for mine sites.
