Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, seeks an experienced E-commerce Platform Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain a robust online platform. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into high-quality technical solutions in a collaborative, agile environment.

The role focuses on designing scalable architecture, integrating with payment gateways, optimizing performance, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on e-commerce platforms.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Node.js, or PHP.
• Experience with Magento, Shopify Plus, or custom-built e-commerce solutions.
• Strong understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases, caching, and API design.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of front-end tech (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Vue/Angular) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile and CI/CD practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable code for the e-commerce platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features and functionalities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to the e-commerce platform, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Optimize platform performance, scalability, and security to meet business demands.
• Integrate with third-party services and APIs, such as payment gateways, shipping providers, and marketing tools.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in e-commerce and software engineering.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmap planning.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise within the team.
