Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, seeks a diligent Legal Officer to strengthen corporate compliance. The role is hybrid, combining in-office collaboration with remote work.

You will develop and monitor compliance programs, assess risks, advise on POPIA and the Companies Act, draft policies, and support governance. An admitted SA attorney with 4+ years in corporate law is preferred.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in corporate law, compliance, or risk management.
• Solid understanding of SA corporate legislation (Companies Act, POPIA, King IV).
• Experience in developing and implementing compliance frameworks is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model with strong self-discipline.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor corporate compliance programs.
• Conduct compliance risk assessments and identify improvements.
• Advise on legal and regulatory obligations including POPIA and Companies Act.
• Draft and review company policies to ensure legal adherence.
• Manage internal investigations into breaches of compliance or policy.
• Deliver compliance training to employees.
• Liaise with regulators and auditors as required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and best practices.
• Assist with corporate governance and board secretarial functions where applicable.
• Support the legal department on various corporate matters.
