Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Aircraft Structures Engineer for our Upington facility in the Northern Cape. The role blends on-site engineering with flexible remote work and focuses on design, analysis, testing, and certification of aircraft structural components.

You will perform stress analyses with FEA tools (ANSYS/NASTRAN/ABAQUS), develop repair schemes, and ensure compliance with airworthiness standards while collaborating across manufacturing, testing, and QA teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with structures specialization.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in aircraft structural design and analysis.
• Proficiency in FEA software: ANSYS, NASTRAN, or ABAQUS.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, materials science, fatigue and fracture.
• Experience with composite and metallic aircraft structures.
• Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and specs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Willing to work a hybrid schedule.
• Knowledge of aerospace certification processes a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and validate aircraft structural components and assemblies.
• Perform stress analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to ensure structural integrity under various load conditions.
• Develop and document structural repair schemes for in-service aircraft.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant aerospace regulations, airworthiness directives, and company standards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Participate in structural testing activities and analyze test results.
• Support production by resolving structural-related issues.
• Stay current with advancements in structural engineering materials and methodologies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for structural design processes.
