Job summary

DRA Global is seeking an experienced HSE Supervisor to oversee day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental activities across project sites. You will work with the HSE Manager, construction teams, and contractors to ensure compliance with legislation, client requirements, and DRA standards.

In this role you will lead on-site audits, incident investigations, risk management, and contractor oversight while promoting a proactive safety culture and timely corrective actions across all operations.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced HSE Supervisor to oversee and coordinate day-to-day Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities across DRA project sites. Working in close partnership with the HSE Manager, Construction Manager, contractors, and site teams, you will ensure full compliance with legislation, project HSE requirements, and DRA standards. This role is pivotal in driving effective risk management, contractor oversight, and fostering a proactive safety culture throughout site operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily HSE activities on-site, providing practical guidance to construction management, supervisors, contractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, project HSE specifications, client requirements, and DRA Material Risk Standards across all site operations.
• Plan, conduct, and coordinate project and contractor HSE audits; monitor action plans, identify negative trends, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Lead incident investigations, oversee health and hygiene monitoring, and ensure environmental compliance, with appropriate resolution of findings and deviations.
• Implement and maintain risk management processes, behavioural observations, event reporting, and planned task observations throughout the project.
• Supervise and support DRA and contractor HSE personnel, ensuring completion of daily inspections, onboarding requirements, and designated HSE activities.
• Coordinate HSE objectives, targets, leading and lagging indicators, reporting, and project record-keeping; address trends through effective action plans.
• Engage actively with site teams to promote safe behaviours and intervene decisively where unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviours necessitate work stoppage and reassessment.

Qualifications

• SAMTRAC or equivalent certification, Incident Investigation Training, Risk Management Training, and Legal Liability certification are essential.
• National Diploma in Safety Management or an equivalent qualification.
• Underground Blasting Ticket, Shift Supervisor/Mine Overseer Certificate, or Competency A & B qualifications are advantageous.
• SACPCMP registration or other recognised professional HSE affiliation is desirable.

Experience

• A minimum of 10 years' project-related HSE experience, including at least 2 years in an HSE management role.
• Experience managing contractors within an EPCM/EPC environment is advantageous, as is experience in HSE within underground operations.

Essential Knowledge Areas

• Comprehensive understanding of HSE legislation, standards, disciplines, risk management, contractor HSE oversight, and incident investigation.
• Strong report writing, record keeping, and objective HSE auditing skills, coupled with a working knowledge of project management principles.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, Microsoft Word, and relevant HSE software; familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards is advantageous.
