Placements24 is seeking a hands-on HSE Field Officer to support operations near Soweto, Gauteng. You will implement and enforce health, safety and environmental policies on-site and promote a strong safety culture among field personnel.

The role requires inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and liaison with site teams. A National Diploma in HSE plus 3 years’ experience and a valid driver’s license are essential; First Aid and Fire Fighting are advantageous.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or relevant certification in Health, Safety, and Environment management.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in oil and gas or heavy industry.
• Sound knowledge of South African HSE legislation and industry best practices.
• Experience in conducting safety inspections and risk assessments.
• Good communication, observational, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a field-based environment.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office).
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the area.
• First Aid and Fire Fighting certifications are advantageous.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily site inspections to identify and rectify unsafe conditions and practices.
• Monitor adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Assist in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, contributing to corrective actions.
• Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks and on-site engagement with field personnel.
• Ensure safety equipment is available, maintained, and used correctly.
• Review and update risk assessments for various site activities.
• Maintain accurate HSE records including reports, incident logs and attendance.
• Liaise with site management and project teams to address HSE concerns and resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with waste management and environmental protection procedures.
• Support the implementation of emergency preparedness and response plans.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic organization within the Oil & Gas sector, is actively seeking a motivated and diligent HSE Field Officer to join their team supporting operations near Soweto, Gauteng . This essential role focuses on ensuring the implementation and enforcement of all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures on-site. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting regular inspections, identifying potential hazards, promoting safety awareness among personnel, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This is a hands-on position requiring a strong presence in the field and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.
