Job summary

Helderberg Personnel in Durbanville is seeking a capable counter sales professional to drive hire revenue and deliver high-level service to trade accounts and walk-in customers.

You will assist clients with equipment selection, manage hire contracts and invoicing, oversee fleet availability, and mentor junior staff. Working hours are Mon–Fri 07:00–17:00 with alternating Saturdays 07:30–12:00. A competitive salary is on offer.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 is required.
• Certificate/Diploma in sales, business or logistics is advantageous.
• 2-3 years counter sales/hire experience in tool/plant/equipment hire strongly advantageous.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Reside in Durbanville or nearby areas.
• Fully bilingual English and Afrikaans.
• Strong technical/mechanical aptitude and POS/rental software proficiency.
• Computer literacy (MS Office).

Responsibilities

• Counter Sales and Revenue: Drive hire revenue targets, handle walk-in/telephone inquiries, and cross-sell add-ons, damage waivers, and accessories.
• Customer Service and Retention: Build lasting relationships with trade accounts, assist clients with equipment selection, and maintain excellent service standards.
• Fleet and Equipment Management: Track equipment availability/utilization, inspect incoming returns for damage, and liaise with the workshop for repairs.
• Contracts and Compliance Accuracy: Accurately process hire contracts, verify client identification/deposits, manage POS invoicing, and handle daily cash-ups.
• Team Leadership: Support, guide, and mentor junior counter staff.
• Stock and Cash Handling: Maintain a cash-up accuracy rate, follow up with debtor/outstanding invoices.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to PPE and safe-handling protocols.

• Minimum 2-3 years’ counter sales/hire experience (tool, plant, or equipment hire industry experience is strongly advantageous)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Fully Bilingual (English and Afrikaans)
• Strong technical/mechanical aptitude, point-of-sale/rental software proficiency, and solid problem-solving abilities under pressure
• Computer literacy(MS Office)
• Must reside in Durbanville or nearby surrounding areas
