Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Commercial Vehicle Technician to maintain and repair a large fleet of heavy‑duty trucks in Richards Bay, KwaZulu‑Natal. You will diagnose engines, transmissions and braking systems, perform preventative maintenance, and carry out complex repairs with attention to safety and accuracy.

The role requires thorough knowledge of diesel systems, experience with diagnostic tools, and the ability to work independently in a hands‑on workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Solid understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and air brake systems.
• Experience with diagnostic tools and software specific to commercial vehicles.
• Ability to perform a wide range of repairs, from routine maintenance to complex overhauls.
• Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and regulations.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Good communication skills.
• A valid driver's license; a Code 14 license would be advantageous.
• Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Diesel Mechanic certificate) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and repairs on heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance inspections and services according to fleet schedules.
• Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivelines, and braking systems.
• Address electrical system issues, including lighting, wiring harnesses, and control modules.
• Perform minor bodywork and structural repairs as needed.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve vehicle issues.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company standards.
• Collaborate with fleet managers to schedule repairs and minimize vehicle downtime.
• Adhere to a clean and organized workshop environment.
