Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its maintenance team in Richards Bay. You will inspect, maintain, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components on a fleet of heavy vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.

The role requires at least 4 years hands-on experience with trucks and heavy machinery, a valid driver's license, and the ability to read manuals and schematics.

Qualifications

• Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic or equivalent trade qualification.
• Minimum of 4 years hands-on experience repairing commercial trucks and heavy machinery.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, powertrains and related systems.
• Experience with hydraulic systems and air brake systems is essential.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics for heavy-duty equipment.
• Valid driver's license; CDL is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and major repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, differentials and suspension systems of heavy-duty vehicles.
• Conduct thorough inspections to identify issues and ensure safety compliance.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and electrical components.
• Utilize specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to pinpoint failures.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance and labor hours.
• Ensure work is completed efficiently and to high quality standards to minimize downtime.
