Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health and Safety Management System (HSMS).
• Ensure compliance with all South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Conduct regular risk assessments, site inspections, and safety audits, identifying potential hazards and proposing control measures.
• Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs to employees and contractors.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage active participation in safety initiatives.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, and stakeholders on health and safety matters.
• Develop and manage emergency preparedness and response plans.
• Keep abreast of changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
• Advise management on all health and safety issues and contribute to strategic safety planning.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., National Diploma in Safety Management, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH International General Certificate).
• Registration with a professional body such as SAIOSH (South African Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) is essential.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in health and safety management, specifically within the construction industry.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing HSMS in complex construction environments.
• In-depth knowledge of South African OHS legislation and construction safety regulations.
• Experience in conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Excellent training, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using digital tools for reporting, data analysis, and virtual collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and travel occasionally to project sites as needed.
