Job summary

Unknown is seeking a Head Pastry Chef for its Paarl operation in the Western Cape. You will lead pastry and bakery, conceptualise, develop, and execute desserts, pastries, breads, and baked goods for the restaurant and events.

You will manage the pastry team, oversee daily kitchen operations, ensure top quality and presentation, maintain hygiene, and stay ahead of pastry trends while controlling costs and budgets.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years pastry leadership experience.
• Proven leadership of pastry team.
• Strong portfolio showcasing creativity and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, prepare, and execute a diverse range of high-quality desserts, pastries, cakes, breads, and other baked goods.
• Develop innovative seasonal menus and specials for pastry and bakery offerings.
• Lead, train, and mentor the pastry team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Manage the pastry kitchen’s daily operations, ensuring efficiency, organisation, and adherence to schedules.
• Maintain strict standards of hygiene, food safety, and sanitation in the pastry kitchen.
• Oversee inventory, ordering, and cost control for all pastry ingredients and supplies.
• Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs on menu development and presentation.
• Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all pastry items leaving the kitchen.
• Stay abreast of the latest pastry trends, techniques, and ingredients globally.
• Manage budgets and control costs within the pastry department effectively.
