Job summary

Placements24 in Randburg is seeking a Head of Software Development to lead multiple engineering teams and shape the technical strategy for a FinTech portfolio. The role requires a strong background in software architecture, agile delivery, and people leadership to drive high-quality, scalable solutions.

The incumbent will oversee end-to-end development, collaborate with product and QA, and mentor engineers in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 8+ years of software development experience with at least 5 years in leadership/management.
• Proven track record leading and scaling teams, preferably FinTech.
• Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns (microservices, SOA).
• Expertise in languages/technologies relevant to FinTech and agile practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Based in Randburg, Gauteng or willing to commute; comfortable with hybrid work.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multiple software development teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for software development initiatives.
• Oversee the entire software development lifecycle from concept to deployment and maintenance.
• Implement and champion agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
• Collaborate with product management, QA, and stakeholders to align development with business goals.
