Placements24 is seeking a visionary Head of Engineering to lead multiple software teams in East London, Eastern Cape, ZA. You will define the technical strategy, drive architecture, and mentor engineers to deliver robust, scalable products in a hybrid work setting.

The ideal candidate brings a decade in software engineering, 5+ years in leadership, and deep experience with Agile, cloud platforms, and DevOps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).
• Experience with hybrid teams and remote collaboration.
• Strong technical expertise across programming languages, platforms, and technologies.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all software engineering teams, including development, testing, and DevOps.
• Define and implement engineering strategy, architecture, and technology roadmap.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering department.
• Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, ensuring timely and high-quality product delivery.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, providing guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and other departments to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes.
• Manage the engineering budget, resources, and vendor relationships.
• Drive initiatives to improve system scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Ensure the security and compliance of all software systems.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential adoption.
