Job summary

Stellenbosch University invites applications for the position of Library and Information Service head for the Engineering and Forestry Library on the Stellenbosch Campus. You will oversee strategic and operational management, provide information services, research support, and information literacy training, while developing collections to meet client needs.

The role also involves mentoring and supervising staff, budgeting, and collaboration with faculties to advance library services for students

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in LIS or a bachelor's degree with a postgraduate diploma in LIS or equivalent qualification.
• At least five years' experience in an information service environment of an academic library.
• At least two years' experience in a management position/role.
• Knowledge of management of an academic, special, or branch library.
• Knowledge of the needs of the academic community regarding information resources, services, research support and other client services.
• General and subject knowledge regarding the extent and variety of printed and electronic resources.
• Proven experience of information literacy development via contact sessions and/or online sessions and/or e-learning programmes.
• High level of computer proficiency, including advanced MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, liaison and marketing skills.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for strategic planning and operational management of the Engineering and Forestry Library.
• Responsible for human resource management.
• Providing information services, digital and information literacy training and research support to clients.
• Responsible for operational management.
• Developing and maintaining a collection of information resources to meet client needs.
• Liaising, building relationships, communicating and marketing training opportunities and services.
• Initiating projects to improve or expand services or functions in the Library.
