The Cape Peninsula University of Technology seek to appoint a visionary and experienced Library Director to lead the library services across all CPUT campuses. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership, direction, and oversight of library services, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration. The Library Director will play a key role in shaping the future of library services, leveraging technological advancements, and promoting a culture of lifelong learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for library services across all CPUT campuses.
- Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and procedures for library services in line with the institutional vision and strategy.
- Lead and manage a team of library staff, fostering a culture of excellence and customer service.
- Collaborate with faculties, departments, research entities, researchers, and academic support services to enhance library services.
- Articulating CPUT Libraries and services to the external environment, external stakeholders, and the HEI sector nationally and internationally.
- Emphasise planning, direction and innovation to align CPUT Libraries at all levels and to ensure internal effectiveness and efficiency of CPUT Libraries regards to all systems, services and resources for maximal service delivery
- Oversee the development and implementation of digital and discovery platforms including keeping up with the most recent trends and developments such as the development in AI.
- Responsible for the development of new and review of existing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Manage budget and financial resources, ensuring effective allocation and utilisation.
- Human Resource Management of all library staff across all CPUT campuses.
- Monitor and evaluate library services through surveys, analytics, and reporting.
- Promote library services through a robust and visible communication and marketing programme.
- Lead space planning and utilisation initiatives to ensure the continuous relevance of learning and study spaces.
- Final accountability for all operations and services of CPUT Libraries to CPUT Executive Management.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Masters’ Degree in Library and Information Science or related field
- 7 years appropriate and relevant working experience in a Senior Library Management position in the higher education and academic library environment.
- Valid driver’s license to work across all CPUT campuses
Recommendations
- Doctoral Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent in a related field will be an added advantage
- A paid up LIASA member or related organisation.
- Research and publication record.
