Job summary

Remote Recruitment seeks a Head of Accounts for a 6–12 month maternity cover, based in South Africa and working remotely. You will oversee day-to-day finance for medical and pharmacy divisions, lead a small team, and handle payroll and supplier payments using Xero.

You will ensure cashflow control, accurate reporting, and timely month-end closures, while maintaining strong commercial judgment and discretion with payroll data.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years hands-on accounting or financial management experience.
• Demonstrated team management or supervisory experience.
• Strong proficiency in Xero cloud accounting software and online banking systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial reporting, reconciliations, and forecasting.
• Solid understanding of supplier payment management, cashflow control, and budgeting.
• High attention to detail with time-management discipline and sound commercial judgment.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day financial operations across medical and pharmacy divisions.
• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of three finance professionals.
• Process backend website payments, daily bank reconciliations, and invoice posting using Xero.
• Monitor daily cashflow, manage bank transfers, and prioritise supplier payments.
• Prepare daily sales summaries, weekly profitability reports, and 15‑week cashflow forecasts.
• Process monthly payroll and payslips via Helixia Xero Payroll.
• Produce month-end sales reporting and statements for credit account clients.

Head of Accounts (Maternity Cover - Remote)

An established international healthcare and e-commerce business is seeking an experienced Head of Accounts for a 6 to 12-month maternity cover position. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will manage a small finance team of three and take ownership of hands-on daily, weekly, and monthly accounting operations across the company's medical and pharmacy divisions. This is a full-time, remote role for candidates based in South Africa.

What you will do

• - Manage day-to-day financial operations across medical and pharmacy business divisions.
• - Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of three finance professionals.
• - Process backend website payments, daily bank reconciliations, and invoice posting using Xero.
• - Monitor daily cashflow, manage bank transfers, and prioritize supplier payments against available funds.
• - Prepare daily sales summaries, weekly profitability reports, and maintain 15-week cashflow forecasts.
• - Process monthly payroll, commission calculations, and payslip distribution via Helixia Xero Payroll.
• - Produce month-end sales reporting and prepare statements for credit account clients.

What we are looking for

• - At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management experience.
• - Demonstrated team management or supervisory experience.
• - Strong proficiency in Xero cloud accounting software and online banking systems.
• - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial reporting, reconciliations, and forecasting.
• - Solid understanding of supplier payment management, cashflow control, and budgeting.

• - Trustworthy and discreet approach when handling sensitive payroll and company data.

Nice to have

• - Experience with multi-currency accounts and digital banking platforms such as Revolut.
