Job summary

Origin Wine Stellenbosch is seeking a reliable Handyman to join our team on site. You will handle maintenance tasks, assist with machine care, welding, plumbing and painting as needed, and support workshop operations.

You will inspect production lines daily, record readings, manage spare parts, follow QMS and health and safety policies, and keep work areas clean and safe. A Grade 12 is required; a trade certificate is a plus, with at least two years in a similar role.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 2 years in a similar environment and role.
• Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
• Trade certificate will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance tasks as per job card and instructions.
• Attend to minor machine breakdowns and welding tasks.
• Perform workshop repairs and grease tasks weekly/monthly.
• Do PVC pipe work and minor electrical repairs.
• Maintain spare parts store in good order.
• Inspect production lines daily and report malfunctions.
• Record water and machine readings daily.
• Monitor spare parts and forklift readings regularly.
• Perform monthly vehicle and forklift checks and take corrective actions.
• Carry out basic plumbing repairs and painting work.
• Adhere to QMS standards and procedures.
• Follow health & safety policies and maintain clean, safe work areas.

Job description

Origin Wine Stellenbosch is looking for a Handyman to join our team!

Task Descriptions:

1. Machine and Equipment Maintenance

• Assists in carrying out maintenance tasks according to instructions and specifications on the job card.
• Attends to minor break downs on machines and equipment upon request.
• Carries out welding tasks when necessary
• Performs workshop repair work when necessary
• Carries out greasing tasks on a weekly and a monthly basis
• Carries out PVC pipe work when required
• Carries out minor electrical tasks such as repair work for switches, plugs etc and replacing light bulbs
• Ensures the maintenance of the spare parts store is in a good order at all times
• Ensures proper care and use of workshop machines, tools and equipment
• All other Handyman duties as required

Inspections and Check-Ups

• Inspects production lines on a daily basis and replaces broken parts where necessary or reports mechanical malfunctions to the Maintenance Manager for further investigation.
• Records water and machine readings on a daily basis.
• Checks and monitors spare parts on a regular basis (daily, weekly and monthly)
• Checks and records forklift readings on a daily basis
• Performs monthly vehicle and forklift check-up’s and takes the necessary corrective action where required

Plumbing and Painting

• Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks, opens clogged drains and replaces washers and other minor parts
• Carries out various paint work on buildings by preparing surfaces and painting according to job card

Quality Management Systems

• Adheres to QMS standards and procedures
• Follows QMS protocol as described by QMS procedures

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

• Assists in the controlling of CCPs including Sanitation Testing of machines and equipment worked on during maintenance.
• Carries out sanitation of workshop and parts store
• Adheres to protective clothing policy
• Ensures compliance with company and statutory H&S policies and procedures
• Works closely with the safety representative to ensure adherence to safe work practices
• Ensures housekeeping is kept in order and meets required standards and all areas of responsibility are clean and neat

Education:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Trade certificate will be an advantage

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years in a similar environment and role
