Job summary

BCE Foods in Gauteng is seeking a hands-on Handyman to join our head office team in the West Rand. You will oversee day-to-day maintenance of the building, perform repairs and ensure facilities run smoothly to support daily operations.

The role requires a Grade 12, a technical qualification and 2-3 years of maintenance experience, plus a valid Code 8 license. You will follow OHS and ISO 9001 practices to keep interiors and exteriors safe and functional.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Technical qualification required.
• 2-3 years working experience in maintenance or related field.
• Code 8 driver’s license.
• Knowledge of OHS Act & ISO 9001 advantageous.

Responsibilities

• General maintenance and repair works (electrical, plumbing, painting).
• Attend to leaks, blocked drains and minor repairs.
• Maintain floors and ablution facilities in good condition.
• Carpentry duties including door lock repairs/replacements.
• Check emergency lighting and power during outages; ensure lighting works.
• Follow safety guidelines and standards in all tasks.
• Inspect interiors, exteriors and parking areas for safety compliance.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans.
• Maintain maintenance inventory and tools; ensure proper storage.
• Monthly generator maintenance and checks.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Job description

We currently have a vacancy for the position of a Handyman, based at our Head office in the West Rand.

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and general upkeep of the exterior and interior of the building by carrying out repairs and scheduled, emergency and ad-hoc work according to set standards and ensuring that all building services runs efficient to prevent inconvenience to daily operations.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Responsible for general maintenance functions such as general repair works, minor electrical repairs, painting, attend to leaks and blocked drains, hanging of pictures, performing of general plumbing duties and all ad hoc handyman duties.
• Responsible to ensure floors are in good condition and ensuring that ablution facilities are in working conditions on a daily basis.
• Responsible for undertaking of carpentry duties such as repair and replacement of door locks.
• Emergency lighting and power supply in case of power failures - to be checked and tested regularly.
• Responsible for ensuring proper lighting in the building by replacing all light and ballasts which are not in a working order.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with the safety guidelines and standards.
• Inspection of interior and exterior of building and parking areas on a daily basis and ensuring adherence to Occupation Health and Safety standards in daily operations
• Developing and implementing preventative maintenance plans
• Maintain all relevant maintenance inventory and equipment and ensure proper storage.
• Maintenance and monthly checking of the generators.
• Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

• Grade 12
• Technical Matric advantageous
• Technical qualification essential
• Minimum 2-3 years working experience
• Practical exposure in basic tasks of repairs and building maintenance
• Be in possession of a valid code 8 driver’s license
• Knowledge of OHS Act & ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems advantageous
