Headhunters in Johannesburg is seeking a hands-on IT infrastructure lead to manage servers, virtualization, networking and backup across multiple sites. You will own deployment, maintenance and migrations in a small IT team.

The role requires deep MikroTik expertise, Windows Server/AD, Hyper-V/VMware, and practical, hands-on infrastructure delivery with strong problem-solving and ownership.

Qualifications

• > 46 years of relevant IT infrastructure experience.
• > Hands-on experience across servers, virtualization, networking and backup/recovery.
• > Strong MikroTik router and firewall administration experience.
• > Solid Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
• > Experience with Hyper‑V and/or VMware, including VM provisioning and migrations.
• > Practical experience with backup, recovery and infrastructure migrations.
• > Ability to design, build, configure, implement and support infrastructure.
• > Troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
• > Experience supporting multi-site environments is advantageous.
• > Ownership and technical leadership within a small IT team.
• > Cisco/Fortinet/Ubiquiti experience may transition to MikroTik.
• > Relevant IT qualifications like Microsoft, Network+ or Security+ are advantageous but not essential.
• > Hands-on with infrastructure technologies and not reliant on historical experience.

Responsibilities

• > Manage and support servers, virtualization, networking and backup infrastructure across multiple sites.
• <Administer and maintain MikroTik routers, firewalls and network infrastructure.
• <Manage Windows Server environments and Active Directory.
• <Provision, configure, maintain and migrate virtual machines using Hyper‑V and/or VMware.
• <Design, build, configure and support infrastructure solutions.
• <Manage and monitor backup and recovery processes, ensuring data protection.
• <Plan and execute infrastructure migrations with minimal business disruption.
• <Troubleshoot complex server, network, virtualization and infrastructure issues.
• <Provide hands‑on technical support and infrastructure ownership across the organisation.
• <Assist with infrastructure projects, improvements and implementations.
• <Lead and support IT team members while staying involved in technical delivery.
• <Ensure infrastructure is stable, secure, resilient and well-maintained.
• <Document configurations, processes and solutions.
• <Take ownership of issues from identification to resolution.
