This is an opportunity to operate at group level within a multi-national business. While initial focus will be on consolidations and group reporting, this is an excellent opportunity to diversify your career. You'll get real exposure to EXCO, ownership of a genuinely complex multi-currency consolidation, and the trust to build things from scratch rather than inherit someone else's template. As the group takes on new ventures, there's a clear path to lead finance for the new business units.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Take end to end ownership of the group's monthly, quarterly and annual consolidation, including intercompany eliminations, currency translation, deferred tax and minority interests.
- Own the group close calendar and keep entity finance teams accountable to it.
- Produce a fully reconciled consolidated income statement, balance sheet and cash flow that stands up to scrutiny.
- Deliver the EXCO management pack each month, and carry real weight in the annual financial statements and audit under full IFRS.
- Build and own the group's KPI framework, from definition through to the metrics EXCO and the board actually use.
- Interrogate business unit and regional management accounts and hold entity teams to a higher standard.
- Turn variances into a narrative: what drove the number, not just what the number was.
- Build scenario and what if models that inform planning and investment decisions.
- Keep the group's chart of accounts and reporting treatment consistent across entities, and cut down on manual fixes by tightening the control environment.
- Stand in for the CFO on group reporting matters, whether that's with entity finance leads, auditors or financiers.
- Build out and lead a group reporting team over time, with scope to take on finance leadership for a new business unit as the group grows.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
- CA(SA), fully qualified
- 5+ years post articles, with at least 3 of those years at group level.
- Ownership of a multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation. You've built it and defended it, not just checked it.
- Technical IFRS depth strong enough to argue your position with auditors under full IFRS.
- A KPI framework and scenario models you've built yourself, not inherited from someone else's spreadsheet.
- Previous experience as a Group FM or Group Accountant.
- Enough gravitas to hold your own in front of EXCO, and enough backbone to push entity finance managers when their numbers don't add up.
- Solid Excel skill
