Placements24 is seeking a Grid Modernization Engineer for an on-site role in Welkom, Free State. You will plan, design, and implement advanced grid technologies, including smart grids, SCADA upgrades, and distribution automation, to enhance reliability and resilience of the regional power network.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in power systems, a strong grasp of SCADA/DMS/AMI, and experience with DER integration.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, focusing on distribution grids and grid modernization.
Strong knowledge of SCADA, DMS, AMI, and smart grid technologies.

Responsibilities

Plan, design, and implement grid modernization projects focusing on smart grid technologies and DMS.
Analyze grid performance data to identify areas for improvement and develop modernization strategies.
Develop technical specifications for new grid equipment, control systems, and communication networks.
Oversee integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and renewable sources into the grid.
Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and vendors to ensure project execution.
Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and risk analyses for modernization initiatives in Welkom, Free State.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and operational best practices.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for grid operations and modernized systems.
Develop training materials and conduct sessions for operational staff on new technologies.
Prepare technical reports, documentation, and project status updates.
