Placements24 is seeking a Grid Modernization Engineer to advance electrical infrastructure in Stellenbosch, focusing on smart grid, DER integration, and resilient energy systems. The role blends on-site assessments with remote analysis in a collaborative, research-driven environment.

You will design and implement grid modernization solutions, analyze performance data, and work with utilities, vendors, and internal teams to deploy ADMS/AMI/SCADA and keep security best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in power systems engineering, focused on grid modernization or smart grid technologies.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA, ADMS, AMI.
• Experience with power system analysis tools and simulation software.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for utilities.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Grid Modernization Engineer to contribute to the enhancement of our electrical infrastructure in Stellenbosch . This role is vital in integrating advanced technologies to create a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable power grid. You will work on projects involving smart grid technologies, distribution automation, and renewable energy integration. The hybrid work model allows for collaborative design sessions and critical on-site assessments, balanced with remote analysis and reporting, supporting the development of future-proof energy solutions within this academic and technologically advanced region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions for grid modernization, including smart metering, SCADA systems, and advanced distribution management systems (ADMS).
• Analyze grid performance data to identify areas for improvement and recommend technological upgrades.
• Develop specifications and project plans for the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and renewable energy sources.
• Collaborate with utility partners, software vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless technology deployment.
• Perform system testing, commissioning, and performance monitoring of modernized grid components.
• Stay abreast of emerging grid technologies and industry best practices to drive innovation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
