Job summary

Surry Community College in Dobson, NC seeks a part-time tutor for the Academic Support Center to assist students across math and other subjects, in person and virtually using approved college software.

The tutor will meet with students outside class, document tutoring sessions, and contribute to maintaining records; candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, reliable attendance, and comfort working in a virtual environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of subject areas for tutoring as needed.
  • Experience tutoring college students is preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills and dependability required.
  • Able to travel to main campus and work virtually as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor basic and advanced mathematical functions as appropriate for department needs.

Job Description - Summary

Tutor various subjects both in person and virtually via approved college software as determined by the strengths of the applicant and needs of the Academic Support Center Staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • A. Tutoring basic and advanced mathematical functions as appropriate for the department’s needs.
  • B. Meeting with students outside of class time to help them complete course-related work.
  • C. Maintain documentation on the courses and times tutored and submit records to the Director of the ASC.
  • D. Performing other job-specific duties as assigned by the Director of the ASC

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office 365 products. Familiar with Microsoft Teams application.
