About the Role
Ramsay Engineering is seeking a strong, disciplined and commercially aware General Manager: Plant Engineering & Facilities to lead the reliability, maintenance, facilities and engineering compliance function across our manufacturing environment. This is a senior operational leadership role for a practical engineering leader who can build systems, develop people and ensure that plant, equipment, infrastructure and utilities support safe, stable and predictable production.
The successful candidate will be accountable for moving the business from reactive maintenance to a mature reliability-led system focused on planned work, repeat failure elimination, statutory compliance, asset availability and long‑term equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Asset Reliability
- Improve equipment availability and reliability.
- Reduce repeat breakdowns and chronic equipment losses.
- Improve MTBF and reduce MTTR.
- Lead root cause failure analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures.
Maintenance Management
- Develop and sustain preventative and predictive maintenance systems.
- Improve maintenance planning, scheduling and work completion discipline.
- Manage maintenance resources and maintenance priorities.
- Ensure repairs restore equipment to approved standard.
Facilities, Utilities and Infrastructure
- Buildings, utilities, compressed air, electrical reticulation, water systems, plant services and related infrastructure.
- Ensure facilities and utilities do not interrupt or limit production.
- Maintain an infrastructure risk register and improvement plan. Ensure repairs restore equipment to approved standard.
- Act as the GMR 2.1 (meeting the legal competency and appointment requirements).
- Ensure statutory inspections and machinery‑related compliance are controlled.
- Maintain safe systems of work for engineering and maintenance activities.
- Ensure engineering risks are visible and managed.
Engineering Capability
- Develop the maintenance team’s technical and leadership capability.
- Establish maintenance standards, work quality expectations and knowledge retention systems.
- Manage contractors and specialist service providers effectively.

Job Requirements
Technical skills and specialist knowledge:
- Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)
- Preventative and predictive maintenance
- Maintenance planning and scheduling
- Shutdown planning and execution
- Critical spares management
- Engineering compliance and machinery safety
- Contractor management
- Maintenance budget control
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience leading maintenance, reliability, plant engineering or asset management teams.
- Proven experience implementing or improving preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, planned maintenance and breakdown response systems.
- Experience leading artisans, technicians, contractors and technical teams.
- Experience with legal compliance, machinery safety, engineering risk controls and statutory inspection discipline.
- Experience with maintenance budgeting, critical spares, shutdown planning and contractor management
- Experience with presses, automated lines, welding systems, conveyors, robotics, utilities and high‑uptime production environments.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (Critical)
- NQF 7 in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent recognised engineering qualification
- BSc/ Beng Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- GCC Factories
