Job summary

Luxury Hospitality Estate, near Stellenbosch, is seeking a Gardener to install and maintain the flowers, trees and green spaces on the estate, ensuring gardens remain healthy and beautiful.

You will manage irrigation, pruning, mowing, and equipment with knowledge of plant life and health and safety regulations. The role requires Grade 12 and ideally 2 years’ experience as a Gardener.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 is required or equivalent.
• Preferably 2 years’ previous experience as a Gardener.
• Experience with plumbing will be advantageous.
• Familiarity with landscaping design principles.
• Extensive knowledge of regional plant life.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenance.
• Knowledge of local pests and appropriate control methods.
• Knowledge of fertilisers (synthetic and natural).
• Understanding of health and safety regulations applicable to landscaping and gardening activities.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and stay on your feet for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Installing and maintaining seasonal plants to ensure attractive, well-maintained landscaped areas.
• Mowing, trimming, fertilising, mulching, edging, and weeding gardens and green spaces, and pruning trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and appearance.
• Responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of gardening equipment and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
• Planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting produce within the greenhouse, ensuring optimal growing conditions and crop health.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including their operation, monitoring, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
• Monitoring plant health, addressing pest-related issues, and keeping gardens, pathways, greenhouse areas, and surrounding green spaces clean and litter-free.
