Job summary

BGA Recruitment seeks an experienced Landscape Manager to lead design, development, maintenance, and presentation of the estate’s gardens and green spaces in Cape Town. You will guide the landscaping team through planning, training, and performance management to achieve sustainable, high-standard landscapes.

The role requires a Diploma in Horticulture or Landscape Management, 5–8 years of relevant experience, and strong leadership, budgeting, and project management skills aligned with luxury

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Horticulture or Landscape Management is essential.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in landscaping, horticulture, landscape management, or estate garden management.
  • Previous management and team leadership experience required.
  • Landscape design and development experience is advantageous.
  • Strong creative vision and understanding of landscape design, plant selection, colour, texture, form, and spatial planning.
  • Strong knowledge of horticulture, irrigation, plant health, and sustainable landscaping practices for Western Cape.
  • Strong planning, organisational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, contractors, resources, and priorities.
  • Valid driver’s licence is essential.

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily, weekly, seasonal, and project-based landscaping operations.
  • Lead design, development, and enhancement of landscaped areas aligned with estate vision and luxury positioning.
  • Develop and implement landscape concepts with architecture and estate themes.
  • Manage plant health, irrigation, fertilisation, pest management, pruning, soil management, and environmental programmes.
  • Oversee irrigation systems ensuring efficiency and water management.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and creatively driven Landscape Manager to lead the design, development, maintenance, and presentation of the estate’s gardens, landscaped areas, and green spaces to exceptional standards.

The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to the landscaping team through effective planning, guidance, coaching, training, and performance management, while ensuring that all landscaping operations are delivered efficiently, sustainably, and to the highest standards.

Experience and Requirements:
  • 5–8 years’ experience in landscaping, horticulture, landscape management, or estate garden management.
  • Diploma/qualification in Horticulture or Landscape Management – essential.
  • Previous management and team leadership experience.
  • Landscape design and development experience will be a significant advantage.
  • Strong creative vision and understanding of landscape design, plant selection, colour, texture, form, and spatial planning.
  • Strong knowledge of horticulture, irrigation, plant health, and sustainable landscaping practices suitable for the Western Cape.
  • Strong planning, organisational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, contractors, resources, and operational priorities.
  • Valid driver’s licence – essential.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the landscaping team to ensure the estate’s gardens, green spaces, and landscaped areas are maintained and presented to exceptional standards.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily, weekly, seasonal, and project-based landscaping and horticultural operations.
  • Lead the design, development, and enhancement of the estate’s landscaped areas, identifying opportunities for garden improvements, planting schemes, feature areas, seasonal displays, and landscape development projects.
  • Develop and implement landscape design concepts aligned with established landscaping themes, luxury positioning, architectural character, and overall estate vision.
  • Manage sound horticultural practices, including plant health, irrigation, fertilisation, pest management, pruning, soil management, and environmental programmes.
  • Oversee all irrigation systems across the estate, ensuring efficient operation, responsible water management, preventative maintenance, and timely repairs.
  • Conduct regular inspections to monitor landscaping quality, plant health, health and safety compliance, equipment condition, and overall estate presentation.
  • Manage departmental and project budgets, stock control, procurement, contractors, and resources in line with approved operational, capital, and project budgets.
  • Drive environmental sustainability, responsible water management, and integrated pest management practices.
  • Liaise professionally with residents, members, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Report directly to the CEO and provide regular updates on departmental performance, budgets, projects, operational requirements, and landscape development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and provide management with recommendations regarding departmental performance, projects, resources, and future landscape development.
