Job summary

Hazendal Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, is seeking a General Horticultural Assistant to join the Harvest Garden team. If you have a passion for gardening, landscaping, and outdoor work, you could help maintain our beautiful gardens and support farming activities.

You will plant, irrigate, prune, harvest, operate tractors, and assist with irrigation systems while keeping safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticultural work.
• Experience operating and driving a tractor.
• Good knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems and general garden maintenance.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Reliable, hardworking, and committed to maintaining high standards.

Responsibilities

• Plant, cultivate, irrigate, prune, and maintain vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.
• Assist with soil preparation, fertilisation, compost management, and mulching.
• Perform general garden maintenance, including weeding, mowing, trimming, and landscaping.
• Harvest produce according to quality standards.
• Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tractors safely and efficiently.
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and basic repairs.
• Monitor plant health and report pests, diseases, or irrigation concerns.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-presented garden environment.
• Adhere to all health and safety standards and assist with additional horticultural duties as required.
