Job summary

Weir seeks a qualified Water Treatment Plant Operator to manage operations in East London, Eastern Cape. You will monitor treatment processes, conduct water quality tests, and perform routine plant maintenance to ensure safe, potable water for the community.

The ideal candidate will hold Grade I–IV Water Treatment Plant Operator certification, have knowledge of water chemistry and disinfection, and hold a valid South African driver’s license for site access and field checks in East London.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a responsible and qualified Water Treatment Plant Operator to manage operations in East London. This role is essential for ensuring the provision of safe and clean potable water to the community by operating and maintaining water treatment facilities. You will be responsible for monitoring treatment processes, conducting water quality tests, and performing routine maintenance on plant equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses a strong understanding of water treatment principles, and is committed to public health and environmental standards in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, filters, and chemical feeders.
• Conduct regular water quality tests (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine levels) and analyze results.
• Adjust treatment processes as needed to ensure water meets regulatory standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant machinery and infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate operational logs, including treatment data, maintenance performed, and incidents.
• Respond to alarms and system malfunctions, taking appropriate corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and health regulations.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator or a related role.
• Certification as a Grade I, II, III, or IV Water Treatment Plant Operator is required.
• Solid understanding of water chemistry, treatment processes, and disinfection methods.
• Ability to operate and maintain various types of water treatment equipment.
• Valid South African driver’s license for site access and potential field checks in East London.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for monitoring water quality.
