Job summary

Takealot Group in South Africa seeks a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Fulfilment Engineering team and drive delivery across the fulfilment process.

You will balance hands-on leadership with strategic architecture, mentor a high-caliber team, and collaborate with stakeholders to remove roadblocks and prioritise initiatives.

The role offers a hybrid model, mentorship, and access to a tech stack including AWS, Kubernetes, and cloud-based analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or advanced diploma in CS/Engineering or related field; equivalent experience acceptable.
• Good SQL/GBQ experience in a high-load environment.
• Experience with e-commerce applications is advantageous.
• Exposure to AWS/Azure, SQL, API integrations, and enterprise ticketing systems.
• Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships.
• Exposure to IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies, and software systems.
• Solid understanding of incident, problem, and change management processes.

Responsibilities

• Handle operational issues across divisions to affect the fulfilment process.
• Remain hands-on as a manager while addressing operational processes.
• Build and retain a high-caliber engineering support team.
• Support and develop the careers of team members.
• Lead team processes and remove roadblocks to improve performance.
• Manage team commitments, prioritization, and alignment with stakeholders.
• Engage in architectural and strategic planning with peers and senior developers.
• Gather requirements and manage expectations with stakeholders.
• Collaborate across business levels to resolve issues.
• Track productivity and operational excellence using metrics.
• Lead operations improvement initiatives for systems covered.
