Job summary

Cre8work is seeking an experienced Fleet Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet workshop in Benoni, Gauteng. You will lead workshop staff, coordinate maintenance, and ensure safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the fleet.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and diagnostics, and proven ability to manage budgets and records. A valid driver's license and relevant qualifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Relevant qualification in Motor Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a fleet workshop or similar environment.
• Previous experience in a Workshop Manager / Workshop Supervisor / Fleet Maintenance Manager role.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, servicing, and repairs.
• Experience working with commercial vehicles, trucks, or heavy-duty vehicles advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Strong computer literacy, including MS Office.
• Good knowledge of workshop health and safety requirements.
• Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.

Fleet Workshop Manager

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Fleet Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshop and ensure the company’s fleet is maintained in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective condition. The successful candidate will be responsible for workshop staff, vehicle maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance schedules, stock control, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the fleet workshop.

• Supervise, lead, and allocate work to workshop staff, including mechanics, technicians, and support personnel.

• Plan and manage preventative maintenance schedules for the company fleet.

• Coordinate breakdowns, repairs, servicing, inspections, and emergency maintenance.

• Diagnose and ensure the effective resolution of mechanical and technical faults.

• Monitor vehicle downtime and ensure repairs are completed within agreed turnaround times.

• Inspect completed repairs to ensure work meets required quality and safety standards.

• Maintain accurate workshop records, including service histories, repair reports, inspections, and maintenance schedules.

• Manage workshop budgets and control maintenance and repair costs.

• Monitor and control the use of workshop tools, equipment, parts, and consumables.

• Liaise with suppliers and external service providers regarding parts, repairs, quotations, and specialised maintenance.

• Ensure the availability of critical spare parts and workshop consumables.

• Approve and monitor job cards, quotations, invoices, and repair orders.

• Ensure all fleet vehicles comply with applicable roadworthiness, safety, and regulatory requirements.

• Implement and maintain workshop health and safety procedures.

• Investigate recurring vehicle faults and recommend preventative solutions.

• Monitor fleet performance and identify opportunities to improve vehicle reliability and reduce operating costs.

• Work closely with Fleet, Transport, Operations, and Procurement teams.

• Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and workshop facilities.

• Manage workshop housekeeping and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.

• Provide regular reports to management on fleet condition, maintenance costs, breakdowns, and vehicle downtime.

Minimum Requirements
