About the Role

Our client, a major transportation and logistics company, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Fleet Maintenance Supervisor for their depot in Nelspruit . This critical on-site role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet maintenance and repair, ensuring the optimal condition and reliability of their vehicle fleet. You will lead a team of mechanics and technicians, manage maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has extensive technical knowledge of vehicle mechanics, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. This is an essential position for ensuring the smooth operation of our client's transportation services.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the daily activities of the fleet maintenance workshop and its team of technicians.
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all vehicles in the fleet.
• Oversee and perform diagnostic testing and repair of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ensure all maintenance and repair work is completed efficiently, accurately, and to a high standard.
• Manage spare parts inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stock control.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and environmental standards in the workshop.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
• Develop and manage the maintenance budget, controlling costs effectively.
• Coordinate with drivers and dispatch to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and workshop equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a qualified mechanic or technician, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within fleet maintenance.
• Proven technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicle types (trucks, vans, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance best practices and fleet management software.
• Experience managing workshop operations, including scheduling, parts inventory, and team supervision.
• Excellent understanding of vehicle safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• A relevant trade qualification in Automotive Mechanical Engineering or similar is essential.

• Experience with fleet management systems is a plus.
