Job summary

Valterra Platinum is seeking a Fixed Term Engineering Assistant (UG) at Tumela Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa. You will assist the Foreman/Artisan, providing engineering services and supporting maintenance and installation of equipment to achieve production targets.

Roles include material control, loading and dispatching to sites, tool readiness, and ensuring safe, two-way communication within the team. Underground mining experience is advantageous; Grade 12 Math/Science required; Artisan Trade

• Grade 12 Math and Science required.
• Artisan Trade certificate will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Material & workshop machinery & equipment control.
• Loading, dispatching material & equipment to work sites.
• Provides assistance to all trades (Artisans) with activities within and without the team.
• Ensure that all required tools, material and spares are available to perform tasks.
• Communication to artisans any unexpected problems.
• Effective two-way communication with team members.
• Help operational employees to maintain equipment in area of responsibility.
• Accompany artisan when inspecting and completing tasks.
• Promote safety awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying unsafe work practices.
• Report any safety related issues to the artisan or full-time safety rep.

This role is based at Tumela Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa and is a Fixed Term Contract for 1 year

Tumela Lower mining is embarking on a structural remedial program to replace multiple buntons, screens, guides and walkway platforms on the bottom portion of the mine. Being part of the structural repair crew will give the full opportunity to construct and fabricate steel work up until the installation and evaluation phase. This project seeks experienced personnel well known for conducting such specialized work.
The Engineering Assistant Discipline Specific UG will be responsible to assist the Foreman and Artisan providing Engineering services and support in the assigned areas through effective maintenance and installation of equipment for achievement of production performance levels.
