Job summary

Valterra Platinum invites applications for an Engineering Assistant Level 1 (Fixed Term) at Mogalakwena North Concentrator, Mokopane. The role provides support to engineers and artisans, handling materials, applying engineering tools, and ensuring safety and quality in daily tasks.

Ideal candidates have Maths/Science and N3 Electrical, with a willingness to work shifts, maintain equipment, and communicate effectively in English. This is a contract role in a leading PGM producer in SA.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 Maths and Science; N3 Electrical is acceptable.
• Must pass psychometric assessment.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Engineering Foreman/Artisans with low complexity/high-volume tasks.
• Assist with material and workshop machinery/equipment control.
• Load and dispatch material and equipment to work sites.
• Follow work instructions and ensure safety standards are met.
• Assist with inspections and maintenance of equipment; promote teamwork and safe practices.

Mogalakwena North Concentrator, Mokopane, South Africa

The Engineering Assistant provides a pool of support of basic discipline specific engineering, technical skills and is required to support all the Engineering Foreman/Artisan to whom the individual is allocated to perform low complexity high volume work.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Material & workshop machinery & equipment control
• Use of Engineering tools
• Loading, dispatching material & equipment to work sites
• Provides assistance to all trades (Artisans) with activities within and without the team.
• Follow work instructions
• Ensure proper understanding of the required actions
• Apply recognized work and safety standards
• Ensure that members work together as a team while completing tasks
• Ensure that tasks are completed to required quality standards
• Ensure that material is not unnecessarily wastedEnsure that all required tools, material and spares are available to
• Communication to artisans any unexpected problems
• Effective two way communication with team members
• Help operational employees to maintain equipment in area of responsibility
• Accompany artisan when inspecting and completing tasks
• Promote safety awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying unsafe work practices
• Report any safety related issues to the artisan or full-time safety rep
• Grade 12 Maths and Science / N3 Electrical

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Electrical experience (advantageous)
• Valid driving license (advantageous)
• Work in accordance with work schedule of area and could possibly involve working shift and overtime including standby
• Must be prepared to work on surface, open pit ‘dusty areas.
• Must be a South African Citizen
• No Criminal Record
• Must pass the relevant psychometric assessment
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English
• A valid South African Driver’s license will be advantageous
