Job summary

Valterra Platinum invites applications for an Engineering Assistant (Discipline Specific UG) at Tumela Lower mining. You will assist the Foreman and Artisan with engineering services, maintenance and installation of equipment to support production targets.

The role requires Grade 12 Math and Science; an Artisan Trade certificate is advantageous, and underground mining experience is valued. This is an on-site, fixed-term contract at Tumela Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Math and Science are required.
• Artisan Trade certificate will be advantageous.
• Underground mining experience will be advantageous.
• Good communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Maintain good housekeeping.
• Control material, workshop machinery and equipment.
• Load and dispatch materials and equipment to sites.
• Assist tradespeople with tasks within and outside the team.
• Ensure tools are available for tasks.
• Ensure required tools, materials and spares are available.
• Notify artisans of any unexpected problems.
• Maintain effective two-way communication with the team.
• Assist operations to maintain equipment in area of responsibility.
• Accompany artisan during inspections and task completion.
• Promote safety awareness and follow procedures.
• Report safety issues to artisan or safety representative.

This role is based at Tumela Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa and is a Fixed Term Contract for 1 year.

Job Description

Tumela Lower mining is embarking on a structural remedial program to replace multiple buntons, screens, guides and walkway platforms on the bottom portion of the mine. Being part of the structural repair crew will give the full opportunity to construct and fabricate steel work up until the installation and evaluation phase. This project seeks experienced personnel well known for conducting such specialized work.

The Engineering Assistant Discipline Specific UG will be responsible to assist the Foreman and Artisan providing Engineering services and support in the assigned areas through effective maintenance and installation of equipment for achievement of production performance levels.

Roles And Responsibilities Include The Below

• Good House keeping
• Material & workshop machinery & equipment control
• Loading, dispatching material & equipment to work sites
• Provides assistance to all trades (Artisans) with activities within and without the team.
• Ensure tool availability
• Ensure that all required tools, material and spares are available to perform tasks
• Communication to artisans any unexpected problems
• Effective two-way communication with team members
• Help operational employees to maintain equipment in area of responsibility
• Accompany artisan when inspecting and completing tasks
• Promote safety awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying unsafe work practices
• Report any safety related issues to the artisan or full-time safety rep

The role is at a B2 level reporting to the Engineering Foreman/Artisan.
