Placements24 is seeking a skilled Sous Chef in Benoni, Gauteng to support the Head Chef in a busy fine dining kitchen. You will contribute to menu development, supervise staff, and ensure top quality food preparation and presentation for high-end events.

The ideal candidate has at least four years in fine dining, strong leadership, and meticulous attention to detail, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in Benoni.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in fine dining or catering.
• Formal culinary qualification from a reputable institution preferred.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a kitchen team.
• Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and cuisines.
• Excellent food safety and sanitation knowledge.
• Organized and detail-oriented with time management skills.
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Based in or able to commute to Benoni, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management and operations.
• Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to procedures.
• Maintain strict hygiene and food safety standards in the kitchen at all times.
• Participate in menu planning and recipe development, contributing creative ideas.
• Manage inventory, stock rotation, and ordering of ingredients for specific stations.
• Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all food items leaving the kitchen.
• Monitor and control food costs and minimize waste. Assist with training new kitchen personnel.
• Ensure all equipment is clean, well-maintained, and operated safely.
• Handle operational duties in the absence of the Head Chef.
