Virtual Financial Controller (Full-Time, Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a full-time, remote Controller to manage finance and administration for a multi-unit hospitality and transport group. From September through audit completion, the role is 40 hours per week; thereafter, through financial year end, the role is 20 hours per week.
The Controller will supervise an offshore Bookkeeper and Admin Assistant, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and deliver comprehensive financial packages to the management team. The role enforces SOPs, drives accuracy in accounting software, and produces management reports aligned with a KPI-based performance structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management
- Supervise the full-time offshore Bookkeeper and Admin Assistant.
- Monitor workflow, task allocation, and performance, including daily check-ins and task reviews.
- Enforce accountability and adherence to SOPs across all accounting and administrative processes.
- Financial Oversight
- Document, update, and maintain financial SOPs.
- Review and validate all entries, including AP, AR, payroll, daily sales, and ticketing revenue.
- Ensure accounting systems reconcile with operational data.
- Manage accruals, prepaids, intercompany items, and full reconciliations (bank, credit card, petty cash, house accounts).
- Reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting for all financial activities, including bank reconciliations, AR & AP reports, COGS, labor, revenue, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and KPI dashboards.
- Deliver consolidated period-end reporting packs with actionable insights.
- Provide variance analysis versus budget, prior period, and prior year.
- Audit & Compliance
- Prepare all reconciliations and schedules for annual audit.
- Ensure compliance with relevant labor and pension regulations.
- Liaise with auditors and management for statutory and shareholder reporting.
- Business Support
- Partner with operations teams to link financial performance with business objectives.
- Assist with labor budget management and cost control.
- Support food cost control, supplier reconciliations, cash flow planning, CapEx tracking, and strategic financial guidance.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA / ACCA / CMA preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of accounting / finance experience, ideally with exposure to hospitality, transport, or multi-unit businesses.
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks; experience with additional accounting, POS, or ticketing systems a plus.
- Solid understanding of industry-standard accounting systems.
- Proven experience managing remote finance / admin teams.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills in a remote setting.
Engagement Details
Full-time for 4 months, then part-time for 8 months, fully remote.
Must work effectively in the Cayman Islands time zone (GMT-5 / EST).
Salary Range: USD 2,500–3,000 per month.
