Job summary

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Location: Piketberg, Western Cape

An established agricultural business specialising in the production, packing and export of citrus and table grapes is seeking a Financial Controller to join its team in Piketberg. The successful candidate will oversee the financial management of the business unit, provide financial and administrative support to operational management, and contribute to effective financial controls and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage inventory, fixed assets and capital expenditure in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Process journals and prepare financial information up to trial balance level.
• Analyse and interpret management accounts, providing meaningful financial insights.
• Assist with annual budgets and quarterly financial projections.
• Provide financial and administrative support to management teams across business units.
• Assist with the evaluation and improvement of financial and administrative systems.
• Support group IT and business intelligence functions.
• Ensure the implementation of standard operating procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support HR with wage administration and salary information preparation.
• Participate in annual audits and respond to audit-related queries.
• Implement, monitor and maintain internal financial controls.
• Manage and coordinate the finance function of the business unit.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field. A diploma or degree in Cost and Management Accounting would be advantageous.
• At least five years' accounting experience.
• Experience in cost and management accounting would be advantageous.
• Ability to prepare accurate financial information up to trial balance level.
• Knowledge of statutory requirements applicable to companies and trusts would be beneficial.
• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and accounting software.
• Agricultural industry experience would be advantageous.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel when required.

This is a full-time, office-based position at facilities outside Piketberg. The successful candidate must be comfortable working on-site and supporting the operational requirements of the business unit.
